This week, I read Deathtrap by Dannika Dark, 3rd volume of the Crossbreed series.
Book summary …
For Raven Black, hunting criminals is second nature. So is denial. It’s not easy moving forward with one foot stuck in the past. But a new case offers her a much-needed distraction when Keystone accepts their toughest assignment yet—to track down an elusive criminal who’s selling children on the black market.
Their investigation leads them deep into the underbelly of the Breed world, a place both treacherous and enticing. With no room for mistakes, Raven makes a tough decision to lock the door to her past before it interferes with her job. The only trouble? Christian holds the key.
The stakes are high, and a shocking twist turns everything on its head. Will they catch this criminal before more lives are lost? Find out in the latest edge-of-your-seat installment of the Crossbreed series.
My review …
We find Raven, Christian, Gem, Niko, Claude, Blue, Wyatt, Sheperd and Viktor investigating the kidnapping of a breed child by traffickers. Keystone must conduct the investigation to save the child and arrest the murderers of his mother.
Through this investigation, the reader discovers the black market for breed. You will discover a dark place where everything is possible. Honestly, the investigation in this book is really interesting. It is darker than other Keystone missions but you will not want to let go of your book.
Through this investigation, Sheperd’s story is revealed. We discover why Sheperd is so haunted by his past (now I understand why he is traumatized). After that, I think a just like him a little more.
I like the fact that we discover Keystone’s members little by little. In each book, we get a little more attached to the characters. Raven also reveals some of her past in this book. And we see her father, which gives us a great scene between him and Christian.
The dialogues between Raven and Christian are always well written (you will not get bored). We feel their relationship evolving towards something they do not necessarily want.
In the last pages of the book, the romance finally advances a little (I will not spoil you)! So just for that I really liked the book.
My conclusion …
If you love fantastic books with action, awesome but complicated characters and romance, this series is for you. For me, this volume is much more interesting than the previous one. I can’t wait for the fourth volume to arrive because there are plenty of unresolved issues in Volume 3.
