I discovered « A Demon Bound » by Debra Dunbar. An urban fantasy full of humor. Honestly, it has become one of my favorites.

Samantha Martin is an imp, enjoying an extended vacation from Hel. All she wants to do is drink beer by the pool, play mischievous pranks on the humans, and get her hot neighbor in the sack. It’s a relaxing break from her infernal home as long as she manages to avoid the angels, who won’t hesitate to execute her on sight.
But when her naughty hellhound lands her in trouble with the local werewolf pack, Sam is blackmailed into helping track and catch a killer. The steps she must take to appease the werewolves will put her right in the crosshairs of the angels. And with angels, there is no second chance.

Honestly this book surprised me, I was expecting a classic urban fantasy … but not at all:
We discover Samantha, a demon on vacation in our world. She is a real estate agent and enjoys everything our world can offer. For once, an author did not create a perfect, sexy and naive heroine. And that’s refreshing. Sam is a perfect example of an anti-hero, she is hilarious and positively imperfect.
Her goal of the moment is to get close to her young and hot neighbor Wyatt without killing him (literally because she is a demon). Unfortunately, she finds herself investigating a series of murders with Wyatt and the werewolves. It seems that an angel could be responsible.We follow Sam in her unwanted adventure.In this book, the action and the humor are perfectly intertwine. I could not put the book down.
During her investigation, she will find herself face to face with an angel, her mortal enemy. Since the pact between angels and demons, the angels have the mission to kill any demon coming into our world. The angel in question is Gregory, a powerful and strict angel.
Gregory is a very uptight warrior. He will be destabilized by Sam. I must admit that if I liked this book so much, it is thanks to the relationship between Sam and Gregory. These two are so different and yet we feel that this relationship will evolve.
The investigation in this book is not complex but the book being full of action and twist it did not bother me.
This book has become one of my favorites because:
- the characters of Sam and Gregory are fun and complex
- there is a lot of humor
- I was never bored
- No instant love
My conclusion …
If you like urban fantasy with a lot of action, anti-heroes and a slow burning romance, this book is for you. The only thing I don’t like is the fact that the Imp series has 10 books. I admit that I’m not a big fan of the long series because after a while I always get bored (yes it’s my lazy side).
But if that does not discourage you, you should start this hilarious series.
