Ravenheart (Crossbreed series 2) – Dannika Dark

14 janvier 2018

This week, I read Ravenheart by Dannika Dark, 2nd volume of the Crossbreed series. Raven and Keystone are back with a new mission.

Book summary

Two weeks after joining Keystone, Raven Black is ready to take on the world as a criminal hunter for hire. If only her partner wasn’t a bloodsucking Vampire with a penchant for getting under her skin. Despite her lavish surroundings, Raven misses the freedom of life without rules. And Keystone’s next assignment is about to test her self-control in more ways than one.

Dead bodies are popping up in the human district, and all signs point to a Breed serial killer. In order to catch him, Raven and Christian embark on a mission that takes their partnership into uncharted waters. Lives are at stake. Can Raven trust her instincts, or will she fall into a web spun from lies and deceit?

My review

In this book, we find Raven, Christian, Gem, Niko, Claude, Blue, Wyatt, Sheperd and Victor in a new investigation. The Keystone organization has been ordered to investigate the deaths of several breed women in the Human District. These women all have the same physical appearance and appear to have been attacked by a vampire.

During this investigation Raven will have to accept her partnership with Christian and they will have to have a united front. The police investigation is interesting but predictable (I know I was disappointed too). So do not expect to be surprised by the ending.

What I liked about this book is that Dannika Dark developed Christian’s character. We learn more about him and his past.

The romance is a bit slow in this book. Honestly, there is not much going on. Raven meets Detective Glass, a chitah who will not hide his attraction to her. Suffice to say that Christian will not like that at all.

The Christian / Raven relationship is slowly evolving. Personally, I largely preferred the romance in the first book.

From time to time, the reader discovers other points of view than Raven’s. I find these changes too rare in this book. I would have loved a little more of Christian or Niko.

My conclusion

Honestly, this book was fun and pleasant to read but the end disappointed me. Not enough romance and a police investigation with a predictable ending. The characters are still great but I feel like this book was written to make us wait and want the 3rd book where everything will develop.
